What is “Fashion” anyway?
Share
A flowy brown just above the knee dress was my first introduction to “fashion”. My dad bought it for me when I was around 12. He doesn’t know it but it is because of him that I fell in love with “fashion”. That dress was a statement piece for me. It wasn’t from a famous brand, but it ignited a spark in my body the moment I put it on. It was almost like I was discovering a new version of myself that was eager to shine. It made me feel seen. Isn’t that weird!? That dress not only made me feel beautiful but also powerful.
From that moment on, I found the power that lay in what we decide to put on our bodies, whether it be clothes, shoes, or other accessories. The power to be creative about how we present ourselves to ourselves. Yes! Read that again! Ultimately, that plays a huge role in how we feel throughout our day.
If you have read it this far, you are probably wondering, “when are we getting this definition?” I believe that “fashion” is what you make it out to be. For me, it is one way I get to express myself with colors, patterns, and denim, regardless of the brand or the price tag. You get to define YOUR fashion. You could have a lightbulb moment like I did when I first put on that flowy brown just above the knee dress from my dad or it could be something as simple as wearing dark colors. Whatever it may be, you are the one riding the waves of fashion to make your own pattern.
Yours truly, Danie
