Meet the Queens: The Meaning Behind "Respect" & "Queen’s Rhythm"
Share
This collection was not made to follow trends.
It was made to honor the women who shaped me.
The women of my family — my great-grandmother, my mother, and now my daughter — all carry the name Matue. It’s a name that lives through generations, whispered through time like a prayer of strength. It’s gentle, but firm. Simple, but powerful. Just like the women who carry it.
This collection, Threaded Origins, is for them — and for all the women who move through the world with quiet power.
Today, I want to introduce you to the first two designs from this story:
👑 Respect
A Kente dress that stands with dignity.
Respect is inspired by the way my mother holds a room. With posture. With calm. With intention. She doesn’t need to raise her voice — her presence says it all.
Made from handwoven Kente from Ghana and assembled in Togo, this dress represents the quiet confidence of the women in my family. Women who have raised generations, nurtured communities, and led with kindness.
This piece is for the woman who demands nothing but commands everything — just by being.
👑 Queen’s Rhythm
A celebration of movement, balance, and grace.
There is a rhythm that lives in the women of my family. It’s not always loud — but it’s always there. The way they speak, walk, cook, braid, sing, pray. Every gesture is its own kind of dance.
Queen’s Rhythm is a pants and top set made from bold Kente, finished with cowries I personally sourced from Cameroon — the country of my roots. It moves with you, flows with your story, and is trimmed with meaning at every edge.
It’s for the woman who leads with joy. Who honors softness but walks with fire in her spirit.
🌿 Why These Names Matter
I didn’t choose these names at random.
I chose them to reflect the essence of the women who carry the name Matue.
They are pillars — of our family, our stories, our legacy.
They are:
- Soft, but never fragile
- Strong, but never loud
- Natural in their beauty, and generous in their care
These designs — like the women they honor — don’t scream to be seen. But you can’t ignore their presence.
🧵 More Queens Are Coming
This is just the first unveiling. Two more designs are waiting in the wings — each with their own voice and meaning.
But for now, I leave you with Respect and Queen’s Rhythm.
They are my beginning.
Closing Line (Call to Action):

I think both pieces are chic and impeccable. They represent the work of fighting, determined and courageous woman regardless of their social status.
MatueCouture is a perfect illustration of this.
I love this blog post! “Quiet confidence” sounds exactly like me. I wonder if I’m from your family 🙃. Both pieces look elegantly comfortable but I am more pulled towards the dress. Can’t wait to get to wear your designs 🩵
Pillars indeed. Beautiful way to honor the generations of women in your family and your family tree! Absolutely beautiful.
I think I have a smattering of both respect and queen’s rhythm…
